General Questions:

What is an electronic book, or ebook?

An electronic book is a digital book, meaning an electronic text. The electronic books provided on this website feature the same content as the print versions sold by Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC). In addition, users can do the following with CCC’s ebooks:

  • Perform keyword searches

  • Insert bookmarks

  • Highlight content

  • Add notes

 

Can I view ebooks on computers, smartphones or other devices?

The standard platform operates through an internet web browser, so it will work on any device that can run any standard web browser. Our recommended browsers are Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. In order to ensure best performance we recommend downloading and using the latest software available to your device. If you're interested in offline access on your Apple iPad, please refer to these instructions.

 

Do I have to create a login?

Yes, this is your first step to using an ebook. You will need your own login and profile to access to the ebook you purchase. It will keep track of your titles if you buy more than one and will also save all of your notes, bookmarks and highlighted sections.

 

Will you send marketing communications to my email?

No, we won’t use your email for advertising or any other unwanted messages. If you’re interested in stories related to culture and language, as well as the latest publications on offer, you may like to sign up for our weekly newsletter. However, we will never auto-enroll you.

 

Can I read an ebook without access to the internet?

Yes, there is an option for offline access by using the iPublish Reader app. This is designed to work best on an Apple iPad. Please refer to the instructions for accessing the app here.

 

Can I return an ebook if I don’t like it, or if I buy the wrong one by mistake?

Yes, we do offer a 30-day return policy. Please view the full details here.

 

Can I read ebooks on my Kindle, Nook or similar device?

No, these ebooks are not designed for viewing on Kindle or Nook devices, which use a special file type. They may be run on the Amazon Fire tablet, however, by accessing via the web browser.

 

Can I access my ebooks on multiple devices?

Yes, you can access your ebooks on up to two devices.

 

Can I share an ebook I bought with my friend?

No, you may not transfer, sell or share your ebook with anyone else. In addition, you may not share your account login credentials with anyone else. You may not use anyone else’s account.
 

Questions About My Profile:

How do I create a login?

From the homepage, click on the upper right of the page where it says LOGIN/REGISTER. When the box pops up, click the tab on the right that says REGISTER. You will need to fill in the required fields and click Create My Account at the bottom to finish.

 

How can I change my password?

In order to change a password the user should login with his or her credentials and select Profile from the dropdown menu in the top right corner. From the options that appear click Change Password. Type the current and new password and then the password will be changed.

 

What if I forgot my password?

If you forget your password, click on LOGIN/REGISTER at the top right of the homepage. Click on Forgot Password? in the lower right of the box that appears. Select either username or email from the dropdown menu, then click in the textbox on the next line. Type your username or email, then click the button that says Send password. It will be sent to the email you used to register.

 

Using the Reader:

Can I adjust the e-book to the size of my screen?

Yes, these ebooks are reflowable, which means they will automatically adjust for different screen sizes and shapes. By selecting the Font Size tool under the Settings gear icon in the top right of the e-book viewer you may also increase or decrease the size of the text to improve your reading experience.

 

How do I search the e-book for specific text or keywords?

After purchasing a publication, click Bookshelf from the menu at the top of the screen. Click Read Online for the title you wish to access. Maximize your browser. In the upper-right-hand side of the window, click on the magnifying glass icon. Enter the term(s) you wish to search for. Hit the Enter key. The list of search results will appear below the term(s). Select each entry to be taken directly to that part of the publication in which the term(s) appear(s).

 

How do I bookmark a page?

Maximize your browser. Navigate to the section of the publication you wish to bookmark. (You do not need to highlight text to create a bookmark.) In the upper-right-hand side of the window, click on the boomark icon (image of a ribbon). To see your list of bookmarks, in the upper-left-hand side of the window, click on Bookmarks.

 

How do I highlight part of the text?

Simply hold and drag your cursor over the text you would like to highlight. When you release you will see the option to highlight. You may choose your highlight color. The highlight will be automatically saved, and you may access it later from the My Activity area.

 

How do I create a note?

Simply hold and drag your cursor over the area of the text you would like to leave a note. When you release you will see the option for note. Click on this and a text box will appear. Type your note, choose your background color, and it will save automatically. The note may be accessed later from the My Activity area.

 

May I print the e-book?

Unfortunately for security reasons the printing of ebooks is not possible. If you are enrolled in one of our 40-hour online courses and would like print copies of the books at a discounted rate please contact us at info@cultureandlanguage.net.

 

How can I provide a citation?

From the menu that appears when you hover over the top right of the viewer, the second option from the left is for citations. It will show you a sample citation from this page of the e-book, available in APA, MLA 8, or Chicago formats. You may copy this directly or email it to yourself. Please treat this as a guideline, and not an absolute authority on citation. It is strongly recommended to compare and check any generated citations against an actual style manual.
